Pick up your holds 24/7 at Mesa Public Library!

Hold Lockers are a self-service locker system that allows library cardholders to check out items placed on hold in a convenient, contact free method, with 24/7 access. The lockers are located under the portal at Mesa Public Library. Look for designated parking spots near the hold lockers.  You can continue to pick up your holds inside both libraries.


All library users with valid library cards may use the service. If you would like to pick up your holds in the lockers select one of these options as your pickup location when you place your hold request online:

You can also contact staff for assistance placing holds.


When you are notified via email or phone that your hold is ready, visit the Holds Locker any time 24/7. If the items are not picked up within seven days of the system hold notification, your hold will be canceled. Your library card is required to open the locker.


Holds Locker pickup is not available for Interlibrary Loans, and select library items at this time.


All items held in your Holds Locker will be checked out to you. If you no longer need an item, simply use our outside book drop to return it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I place a hold to be picked up from the Holds Locker?

Go to the online Library catalog and search for a title.  Click on the green "Place Hold" button to the right of the title.  You will be prompted to enter your Library card number and PIN.  When prompted change the "Pickup Library" to Mesa Public Library - Any locker for any available locker or Mesa Public Library - Lower locker for placement in lockers that are accessible between two and four feet.

Are there certain items that cannot be placed on hold and picked up in the Holds Lockers?

Not all library items available for checkout can be picked up in the Holds Lockers.  Certain items such as art, kits, telescopes, Seed Library items and the Family Pass will need to be picked up inside the library.  

When will my item be ready for me to pick it up?

Library staff place items in the Hold Lockers twice per day, once at 12pm and again at 5pm Monday through Friday.  On Saturday and Sunday items are added at 12pm.  If your hold request is on the shelf and not checked out to another person you can expect it to be available for pick up within 24 hours.  You will be notified via email or phone that the item is ready for you to pick up in the Holds Locker.

How do I know that my item is in the Holds Locker ready for me to pick it up?

You will receive an automated phone call or an email indicating that your item is in the Holds Locker.  The message or notice will indicate where your item is being held.

Where can I park to pick up my holds?

hold locker parking sign imageThere are two designated spots located near the lockers.  The first is in the pullout area for loading and unloading.  The second is located beyond the lockers under the parking light.  Look for the designated signs.


How do I use the Hold Lockers?

Once you have been notified that your item is ready to be picked up visit the Hold Lockers 24/7 and scan your library card.  Position your card so that the green laser captures the entire barcode.  The laser scanner will also read barcodes stored on your phone.  You also have the option to type in your library card number.  After you have logged in follow these steps:

  • Press the "Hold(s) Pick Up" button.
  • Select the items you'd like to retrieve.  Note that you must take all items contained within the same locker.
  • Press the "Check Out Selected" button.
  • Your locker will pop open and you can take your items.
  • Close the locker and press "Done" to log out of your account,
  • Your library card will allow you to access that locker for up to 1 hour after you retrieve your items.
  • If you decide that you no longer need that item, return it to the book drop and staff will check it in within 24 hours.

 

Do I have to use the Holds Locker?

No, you can choose to continue picking up items you have on hold inside Mesa Public Library or the White Rock Branch.  Designate which location you prefer when you place a hold.


Can I set the Holds Lockers as my preferred pick up location for holds?

Yes, you can.  Log in to your account above and navigate to "My Account" then "Personal Information".  Under "Preferences" change your preferred pickup library to "Mesa Public Library - Any locker" or "Mesa Public Library - Lower locker".


What happens to my holds if I don't pick them up in time?

You have seven days to pick up the item you have on hold.  After 7 days  it will be removed from the Holds Locker and routed to the next patron if there is a waiting list or returned to the shelves.


I wasn't able to get my holds at the Holds Locker.  How can I get help?

What if I no longer want the hold?

After you remove the item from the Holds Locker return it to the book drop.  Library staff will check it in within 24 hours.
